a warm welcome
Welcome to Rinky Dink Travel. We hope to be your host when you come and experience one of the last nomadic cultures in the world. Mongolia is a land of vast geographical and human diversity. It is populated by over fifteen distinct ethnic groups spread out through mountains, forest, desert, steppe and lake-lands.
The great nomadic empires of high Asia got started here on the grassy steppes of Central Mongolia. Chinggis Khan’s Mongol Calvary erupted out of these valleys in the thirteenth century. At the height of power Chinggis Khan’s Calvary created the largest empire the world had ever known occupying territory from the plains of Hungary to the Korean Peninsula.
Mongolia is an adventure that even the most experienced traveler will find challenging and fascinating. So bring your sense of wonder and a flexible attitude.
How is Rinky Dink Travel Connected to helping the impoverished families in Mongolia?
Rinky Dink Founder Susan Griffeth came first to Mongolia in 1997. She originally came as a volunteer for a charitable organization. Susan spent the summer touring the countryside and working with street children at a summer camp. During the last ten years she has coordinated accommodation, transportation, and food for hundreds of volunteers coming to Mongolia. She has organized 9 summer camps for the street children and orphans of Ulaan Baatar. After staying in Mongolia for several years, it became obvious that many poor families need help before their kids end up on the street. Five years ago Susan moved to one of the poorer areas of Ulaan Baatar to live with those in need. This area is called Ulaan Huaran. Since that time, she has been joined by another American family. Together they are working to bring awareness to the ger district and to provide a better life for the poor in this area.
